No question that Fall 2009 has presented us with a vast array of trends worth rocking from big shoulders and boyfriend jeans and blazers to leather, fur, one shoulder dresses, sequins and the list can go on. With so many delish options on the plate its always tempting to become a glutton and gorge on it all regardless if it works for you or not, but maybe its time to ask yourself if you should. Should you dress according to the latest trends or according to your own body type?
There’s no question that most times these 6 foot tall skinny minnie women (and I use the term lightly since most of them are underage girls with bodies not fully developed) strutting down the catwalk makes it all look so effortless to pull off. If they do an exceptional job they actually play a role in helping us to disillusion ourselves into believing hell yeah I can pull that off too! No problema!! And dare I say that sometimes even these skinny minnies can’t pull off certain trends. Gasp! Well it’s true because sometimes certain silhouettes and cuts need a curvier figure to make it look yums. Going from Runway to Real Way isn’t always so cut and dry.
Like most women, I too want to look stylish and put together, but I’ve come to accept that well my legs aren’t going to get any longer.
I’m cool with that. I’m what you would label “petite”. I hate that word. I’m 5’3 with a slim athletic build and trust me it’s not an easy body to dress. People would tell me about how lucky I was to be able to wear anything and I would be thinking, “ummm no it’s not”. Certain things would just drown me and it just looks ghastly when you’re swimming in your clothes. No matter how much I would appreciate how it would fall on someone else, I knew that this is just not for me. Simple. Move on because the things that were suited for me I would rock out and rock hard! I love clothes, but I don’t want them wearing me; I want to wear them.
I know what I’m going to have fun wearing this fall season and what I will leave on the racks. I want to be seen first and then for someone to think , “wow that looks amazing on her!” I love seeing women looking fab in clothes that accentuate their assets. So sound off. I’m interested in your comments. Do you dress according to the latest trends or according to your body type?
